Stout, undaunted, continued assembling the chimney with his bleeding hands, causing the bricks to transform into a haunting shade of deep vermillion. As the news spread, the villagers deemed the bricks as the ‘Bleeding Bricks of Stout’, which in time morphed into the title ‘Upper Bleeding Bricklayer’. To this day, a solitary chimney, partially tainted in red, misplaced in the verdancy of Abberley, stands as a testament to his undying dedication to his work, reminding us of our ancestor’s strength and determination.
